I've noticed that there's now a larger (but copyrighted) version of this pic over in the Photo Order section of The Bolton News site.

As I was reading through a Chris Geere (WR's Matt Wilding) interview on the revamped Waterloo Road website, I came to this bit...

DOES MATT HAVE A LOVE INTEREST?

He had a long-term partner, Colin, but Matt’s now single, as to the future – who knows!

Then there was the last paragraph of Matt's profile...

Matt is gay and was with a boyfriend for three years, but the fact that he was unwilling to live openly as a gay man was a source of constant rows between them and meant the relationship was doomed to failure. Now Matt finds himself newly single and is burying his grief in a partying lifestyle. However, the party has to end when he finds himself foster parent to a troubled young girl and the target of hate for her brother and erstwhile father.

Though there was zero mention of this new series on any of Chris's CVs, it was still natural to not want to 100% rule out his involvement...but I have now! And the last we saw of Colin, he was happy...and being proposed to by Matt...

The title of this thread isn't appropriate to this post at all, is it?!

I'm really looking forward to the new series of Waterloo Road next week - I saw an advert for it last night and it looks really good, episode 1 is a feature length episode! Well, 30 mins longer lol :)

I'm not impressed, however, at the news that Matt and Colin are no more *sobs* :( I'm not surprised though (they'll probably pair him up with the new PE teacher now or something lol) but there's no reason why they couldn't have kept Matt and Colin together even if Chris isn't in the new series.....they could have kept it as an off screen relationship like they have done with Grantly and his wife. Although even that relationship is seemingly going to bite the dust now *sigh* :(

Gays of our lives talk about Matt HERE. There are mentions of his relationship with Colin throughout (plus a namecheck for Chris) and a few Matt/Colin clips (from Chris's last episode) in the write-up's accompanying video (the veoh video...which has synching problems throughout, btw...showing much bigger on veoh itself).

The write-up focuses on Matt's 'biggest story': Matt gets very little notice of a visit by his mother and then proceeds to get rid of all traces of Colin from their flat...the story culminating in Matt proposing to Colin.

They liked the writing/acting in this episode, calling the scene where Matt finds out that his mother already knew he was gay as 'riveting'. However, on the marriage proposal...

What didn’t ring true was Matt’s proposal to his boyfriend. Yes, it was sweet, but it lost its impact among all the emotional turmoil. Getting married seemed to be the last thing these two men needed to do.

And the piece ends with...

So what is next for Matt? Will he and Colin marry? Check out the spoilers and the 2009 Preview for a sneak peek at what’s ahead on Waterloo Road.

Think we can take a safe guess on the marriage question... Bit difficult when you aren't even dating someone...

A kindly youtuber has been gradually uploading 'Matt and Colin' clips over the last week. Note, though, that Colin doesn't actually feature in all of the 7 clips (6 parts, with part 3 split into 3a and 3b) so far uploaded: he's in parts 1-3a/b.

The Colin-related bits currently go up to where we see Matt surprising Colin by kissing him as he leaves school for the day....so we're not quite yet up to Colin's last episode. I'd imagine they'll be up on yt pretty soon, though.

In terms of Matt's scenes, MOST of the yt clips contain all of his from the relevant episodes. However, any gaps can be found in the megaupload/mediafire clips scattered throughout this accompanying Matt and Colin thread on The Gays Of Daytime....well, except for one 'extremely minor Matt-in-the-background scene'. (Chris does get a namecheck in posts 2 and 9, btw...though he's not mentioned by name in amongst a few Karl/Corrie comments on yt. And this one Colin comment on yt sums things up for me: "COLIN! Happiness."!) No scenes of Chris's have been snipped for yt, though.

And all of the yt clips can be watched in 'high quality', btw.

As the playlist I linked to hasn't yet been updated with the latest Matt/Matt & Colin clips, just to say that two more have now been added (parts 7a and 7b)....TubedOutNow2's youtube channel :) They cover the build-up to/staging of the WR musical...so meaning there's an ickle bit of Colin/Chris to be had therein!

All of Chris's scenes from his last WR episode have now been uploaded to TubedOutNow2's youtube channel. They can be found throughout parts 10a-10d. (On that accompanying Matt and Colin thread, tubedout :) has also now added a megaupload link...in post 31...to a file of all of Chris's scenes from the episode...meaning both Chris Finch and Chris Geere, that is!)

Btw, to go along with clip 10d, there are some nice yt comments in regards how things ended with Matt and Colin in that episode...though with most not realising there's now no more Matt and Colin to come. And in amongst the comments under clip 10a, someone's just gone for putting things very simply on Colin (and therefore Chris!): "my God colin is so hot"! :)

Hmm, just as well that Matt & Colin thread was created alongside the Matt/Matt & Colin clips uploaded to tubedout's youtube channel...It's now the only place where you can get hold of the clips! Due to a copyright claim from the BBC, ALL of the yt versions of the clips have now been removed. There is also currently no TubedOutNow2 youtube channel, as his account has been suspended.

And tubedout, on that thread, was writing today about the loss of his clips. He was keen "to try to finish out this season and start with the two aired Season 4 episodes, so that the regular viewers of this storyline aren't left hanging.", and also wondering whether to upload the previous clips again at a later date...and then his account got suspended. Not surprising, I suppose, given all of the other copyright claims, but still.... He must be gutted.

Argh, blooming bollocks!

There's a great audio interview with Chris Geere now up on Waterloo Road Fans (bear in mind, for if you're downloading it, it won't save as an mp3 file unless you add '.mp3' to the title you save it as). It's really interesting and insightful, and Chris sounds like a genuinely great guy. He's very chatty and tries to answer each question as fully as he can.

It inevitably concentrates on Waterloo Road talk (and note that it does contain spoilers), but we do also hear about things like what Chris has coming up career-wise. And we also hear from Chris...though we don't hear why...that he won't be returning for any fifth series.

Interesting to find out that the reason why Matt doesn't appear in episodes 3 and 4 is because they were filmed in the same block of filming as episodes 5 and 6...episodes in which he features heavily and so he consequently ended up being left out of 3 and 4. Reminds me, though, of what Catherine Tate said about filming Doctor Who. She once said in an interview that the reason she barely featured in the episode Midnight is because she was off filming for the Donna-heavy episode Turn Left at the same time.

Chris also mentions Matt's adoption storyline in episode 6 and that there's a 'huge thing' taking place within episodes 15-20 (Matt's 'main episodes').

Anyway, don't know if you're reading this Chris (Finch, that is!), but just to say that you might be particularly interested to listen to this interview....The very first question Chris G is asked is "Why did Matt split up with Colin?" Chris G really did seem to be having to think on his feet to come up with something for that answer! He clearly didn't have a prepared reason for why it happened!......

Thanks for the link Joanna, I don't have time to listen to the interview at the mo though so any chance of letting me know Chris G's answer to the Matt/Colin question?

I'm actually surprised that Chris G hasn't been told the reason why they split up cos surely the writers would have an inkling as to why they are no longer together?!

Well, Chris G's initial reaction to being asked the question basically says it all...."Why did Matt split up with Colin? Phwaorrrrr...I don't know!" :)

But the rest...(and imagine Chris G UMing, ERing and stumbling over his answer to this particular question for when reading the following!).....

He said that Matt and Colin seemed to be in turmoil when we saw them halfway through the last series...that he thinks Matt is quite an ambitious person, having ideas of what he wants from his life, and obviously worked out that Colin wasn't going to be a part of it...that you could see some problems were happening...that, them having been about to get engaged at the end of the last series, something must have then happened between that and the beginning of the next series 'to mean change'. He then added that, as this series progresses, Matt is more excited about doing things in the school than he would be anything to do with a relationship...."That's the last of his personal life, really, in this series"......

Interviewer: So something happened in-between, over the summer holidays...? (laughs)

Chris G: Yeah, ahh, dread to think (laughs)...Who knows!...

'Who knows' indeed, Chris!

It was probably something to do with a whole packet of Hobnobs. He just couldn't be satisfied with only a couple of biscuits. It's the same old story. Beautiful relationships ended for the sake of a bourbon and a fun pack of custard creams. I cry for these people, I really do.

Thanks for the info Joanna :)

Hmn, I still think it was ridiculous for them to split up....they seemed happy last time we saw them and after everything they went through with Matt's mum, I just don't buy that something worse happened over the summer to lead them to break-up lol.

But I really must remember that they are fictional characters and not real hahaha! :)

In a conversation between Matt and Steph (on him becoming an emergency foster carer), tonight's episode brought a Colin mention....

Steph: Well, you certainly kept that one quiet.

Matt: Well, I didn't want to say anything until I'd been approved. It's something I've always wanted to do, that..you know, Colin, he was never really interested. When he left, I thought, well, what's stopping me. So...*holds up what looks like some sort of fostering booklet*...here I am.

And then, soon afterwards, Matt says to his new foster child (and pupil)..."There's very little that can't be solved through open and honest conversation." So Matt and Colin were clearly not destined to last, then...

Matt was also referred to, through Earl Kelly talking to his step-dad, as a 'gay boy'. Hmm, now I wonder just 'what' I thought of when I heard that... ;)

WR series 3 is now available to pre-order in the form of 2 DVD boxsets ('Autumn Term' released on 2 March and 'Spring Term' released on 1 June). And assuming they each contain 10 of the 20 episodes from the series, then Chris/Colin can be seen in 4 of the first volume episodes (1, 3, 4 and 10) and 1 from volume 2 (15).
