Ignore the bits not highlighted if you want to stay on topic (cos I hate it when people go off topic for a verbal masturbation fest!)

I have no idea what this is about but I signed up ages ago and I suppose reading this its made me want to get involved. I think it's correct to keep this threads on topic without going into petty spats about nothing. For us readers who like to stay in the shadows it clogs up the threads and renders them useless.

John Moorden. Sorry but you make a few decent points soured by daftness and bile. You seem a very bitter person you make me want to give you a hug. But because you're spoiling what is a decent site please stop it. You are making no friends.

I know who you are from another forum which you also spoiled with unfunny and sometimes boring posts and if it is you it's quite sad that a man with your background has to do this. Keep your head down and I am sure you will bounce back without having to take down other people for kicks.

Anyway back on topic guys. I agree with the two Johns. ALL areas of film production need to be boosted. Good scripts and good films are being overlooked by the film council who I know could do more with the public money they are given.

There is "Springers final thought". I think thats me for another 3 years :)

Interesting Columbo....

I don't know who you are as you are pseudonymous but i am John Mordon.

As for bouncing back, i am bouncing as much as i want to and enjoying it. all my points are just opinions and i will make them whether on here, or face to face with the people i meet. Sometimes the truth hurts and provokes responses, you call it bile because it has obviously hit the intended spot and that is great. The people on this site should be glad of the 'traffic' and attention. God knows none of the table propping was drawing people in.

Another site? What other site?

Hope to see you soon.

JM.

Dear Jon...

You are delusional....take some responsibility....the truth hurts, it's as simple as that. If I’m wrong then why are you so defensive? Please don't come up with some crazy meaningless stats. Come on, you are above that surely.

1. There is a huge network of cinemas. Of course they want to make money but they will only show decent films(by that i mean well made, well acted, polished, interesting etc not always my cup of tea). Most British films are rubbish, badly written, poorly acted...more so the low budget ones.

2. Not even worth a reply.

3. Advertising? A good film will win through. You can't advertise a turd without it still being a turd.

4. British distributors champion films that will make money and not the ones that won't. I don't agree with that entirely, but it is just a fact. However when a film is genuinely good but not commercial they will still find an audience.

I have seen 'diary of a bad lad' and I thought it was dreadful. Poor script, poor acting etc. Exactly like the vast majority of British films. I can see exactly why no-one would want to see it, never mind promote it. 'Bar Stewards' looks much better but I haven’t seen it. On the one hand I congratulate anyone who makes anything, but on the other we can't delude ourselves when it is poor. Your friends and family can do that for you or indeed other poor filmmakers, because believe me if they were successful they would disappear even quicker than a hurricane film budget.

When a film is great I will be the first to shout its praises(whatever that is worth). Come on Jon, be an adult. Don't throw your dummy out the cot because someone has disagreed with you. It is so easy to blame the promotion, then you don't have to take any responsibility. If you just want to make films for the sake of it, then continue to do so and ignore me, I couldn't care less. But filmmaking is about debate and passion and we need to enter into that to improve(not literal passion).

'And getting on with that is far more important than having to right replies to such disgusting and disgraceful posts.'

1. You don't have to do anything, you choose to.

2. Did you mean 'write' when you wrote 'right'?

warmest regards and here's hoping you wake up to reality.

People..

The debate is strong here..and in opposition I would say it is quite healthy.

When you consider the hill people have to climb to get their work done - never mind out into the community in some shape - it's hard to take and occassionally painful to hear and read things that don't comfort the gut....just look at Chris Moll..

But them's the breaks eh?..Yes I agree - i think this forum is grand and has committed people striving in all areas to reach personal heights...but the fact is - and not statistics Jon - is that work HAS TO BE THE BEST IT CAN POSSIBLY BE IN EVERY FORM BEFORE IT REACHES ANYONE TO STAND A CHANCE.

Let's discuss distribution then. We can quote the stats and articles forever. But to feature in any of it at all, your work has to be exemplary. People can complain about how the details are metered out but it counts for nought if it can't cut it.

Now the films and projects that we have seen commisioned, made and distributed that we all feel deep inside to be not of this maxim have been done because of back-slapping, "base spaniel fawning" (as Shakey would say and Moll would know) and from ill-informed decisions again from people who would be better spent counting beans than understanding what goes into making decent pictures. The other exceptions to this are ones that have had "production problems" and that for reasons better left unsaid have caused it to go the way of the Dead Man's Cards - aka the bog.

Now we may not like to hear this, we may not agree with it and it may sting like a bee but all the distribution deals in the universe won't help a Dead Man's Cards, a Liam, a Revenger's Tragedy, an Under the Mud, a Grow Your Own, an Al's Lads, A Salvage, A Kicks, A My Kingdom, A 51st State, A Digital Jesus, An Act of Grace...and whatever....and why?

Because - quite simply and with no disrespect to the writers and anyone else involved before the pelagic feeders got to 'em - they were just never that good in the first place. And jeeez...there's been a lot of them recently eh? Surely the North West can't be all that bad? We support NW film don't we?

Well if we honestly and truly think they stink - we shouldn't. And saying that does in no way mean that I have no appreciation of what it takes and what is involved to get the job done. There is credit a plenty for just that.

Don't ever forget - if we distribute Ladas people..they're still lada's...

Isherwood....

Anyone who had anything to do with "Kicks" needs to be taken out...not just down.

I know that's not what you mean - just trying to lighten your load before three years of solitude

Poor sad John Moorden

People who have heaped praise on Diary of a Bad Lad (especially the acting) to name but a few:

Alex Cox, Chris Bernard, Bruno Coppola, John Robb, Steve Balshaw (programmer, Salford Film Festival), John Wojowski (Kino Film, Manchester), Michael Tully (Indiewire)

People who thinks it's crap: poor sad John Moorden.

People who think that statistical data and evidence means vastly less than their assertions: poor sad John Moorden.

People who think that their local multiplex shows nothing but great films: poor sad John Moorden.

Yes John, I know from your posts that you claim to have made some attempts at making films, but that you proved to be a dismal failure. I know how much it must hurt inside for you. Please feel free to continue revealing your psychological problems on this forum and I will do my best to help you. We all will John, poor sad John.

“I have to say that the majority of the features made have been below par”

“I don't know if anyone experienced 'My Kingdom', shot in Liverpool. I did an it was excruciating”

“I have seen 'diary of a bad lad' and I thought it was dreadful. Poor script, poor acting etc”

“I have had the misfortune to see 'one way love', and it is shambolic.”

Nothing wrong with expressing opinion, but for the sake of discussion can you please elaborate why films are excruciating, shambolic or dreadful? It would be good to read your views on some of the positives; surely you can acknowledge some of the ideas used - even if you feel they were not executed that well. Surely as a film-maker yourself you would respect the feedback.

What chances do British Film-makers have if people are just sneering at them? I have not seen any of Chase’s films; however I would imagine they deserve a better critique than a one word evaluation.

I think you are being disrespectful to the actors in Bad Lad, I think there are some ropey performances too, but when I watched it for the first time (before I met any of the Pleased Sheep lot), I thought the majority of the characters were convincing and the acting was very good overall.

“I don't know who you are as you are pseudonymous but I am John Mordon.”

“Do you think it actually means anything going to Edinburgh Film Festival Chris? I’ve had three films shown there”.

“Well I have been waiting for someone to say 'what have you done John'. The alarms have finally rung out loud. i knew it would be you Chase. What on earth does that matter?”

I have had a quick Google, and I can’t find anything film related results to John Mordon or John Moordon, so I cant evaluate any of the films which were apparently in the Edinburgh Film Festival.

Can you link me to some of the details of those films, maybe I can view them online? I don’t think it’s fair that you can dismiss people’s films (which is what you are doing with your one word assessments) when they can’t have an opinion on your attempts.

Hi all,

Couldn't log in with John Moordon, so had to rejoin. Maybe you don't want to hear what i have to say.

Cheers for all the attention Jon. I never knew my opinion was so valid. Thanks. Hit another nerve.

I have to say that that is the best thing you have written.

Those people really liked it...wow...Chris Bernard....wow...what did they actually do to support it...invest money? Put you in contact with anyone? Get it promoted? Buy the dvd rights? Surely if they loved it they could have done something.

Ask yourself why they said what they did? Maybe to encourage? Maybe so you return the same compliments?

If you have the support of all those wonderfull filmmakers what happened?

Just dismiss what i have to say, that is great by me. Plod on regardless. You obviously can't hear what i'm saying, or maybe you just don't want to. As i said the truth is often painfull, that is why you react the way you do. Your dummy must have been thrown out of your little pram a long time ago.

And Cop, keep dreaming. I wouldn't want any of your opinions because i couldn't care less. I'm happy with some of what i have done, and some i am not but i don't need a back slap from people who are just dreamers. As i say if you disagree with me then great. You obviously all have a much better idea than me..especially if chris Bernard and others agree....

Jon, you are a sad delusional man....you strike me as a classic failed writer...are you a teacher?

Cop..

thanks mate - I'll wait and pick up a copy.

John Morden - I have to say I don't know what all the fuss is about. C'mon people - he's said some things that have obviously offended..

But he should be allowed his opinions I feel. Why? Well let's be honest, Chris Moll - and I'm not carrying this issue with him on believe me - who should be supporting this forum and its members fully as a "practising professional" insulted everyone far more than Morden did with his "high achievers" dirge...

At the end of the day, all he revealed there was thathe'd never ever ever consider anyone of you EVER and never had the guts to tell you at the start. Really damning that don't you think?

But then that's a necessoire of the job - to be slimy and two-faced - and something people like us on here would never understand or contemplate...I hope!

Whether Morden's comments are good or bad they seem to come from the hip and never lean on indifference.

I'm not condoning that but the true essence of understading is surely to court all..

Do you think Chris Moll will stand on his platform here anymore?

No....because he doesn't give a shit and never did.

Mordon seems to have balls at least.....

And can I ask - is there a list of people who had any negative opinions of Bad Lad? (apart from Morden of course..)

I shouldn't be saying this so close to release, but there is... Personally I think it is a "love it or hate it" movie, but the film-makers perfer reading what people didn't like about it rather than something like "crap".

To be honest, I’m not interested in the politics behind the exhibition of North West film, I have never met Chris Moll, and I’m not that interested in the setup of the Film Council or North West Vision. Diary of a Bad Lad is not my film, but obviously I want to it be a success because my buddies made it and it could help the production of Bar Stewards.

I think there should be a common and easily accessible outlet for British Films, good or bad, and from there - I will let Jon Williams do the shouting, he is better than it than me.

As a reader of the discussion, I just think it’s a shame when films are labelled as dreadful etc – that’s fine - but I would rather read “it was alright”, “that bit was ok”, “it would have better if…”

It’s not bringing anything to the discussion apart from bickering

John Mordon - I didn't mean for you to take it like that, I just want to see your films that's all, and I didn't have any intention of expressing my opinion online. Call me a dreamer, but I am giving it a go, not losing anything apart from the odd weekend and a bit of pocket money, but I’m enjoying myself.

I’ll just assume you are modest and your films are awesome

Hey mate - spot on post that. I'm with you on all points and also in spirit.

I just think that as art is an opinion based medium it's sometimes difficult to put in to words exactly what makes something good or bad.

I'd have to say that for me..it's an instinctual feeling that there is something lacking or missing and if you can describe what it is then it's easier to point out.

It's never normally just that simple though is it?....and I think that if the creators can't get the work to be as good as it can be then the going is set to be a lot tougher. No-one is ever brutally honest about things that are "bad" because they don't like to offend..

except Morden it seems....who is fairness to him did compliment Chase's Land of Nod in his celluoid review of all else.....

This is a subject that you can help contradicting yourself about because it's about...well...your opinion versus others...

So there will be tears, there will be joy. We should be mindful of the good and bad tho'....

Bad work = poor effort = less of a bet = not worth bothering with.

Nobody wants to admit to being any of that.

Are you at the Pennine fes Cop?

Funny there's no need for clarification for compliments if i make a point to say a film's ok, even if you think its rare.

its ok to dream Cop, its ok 'cos i dream too.

Sorry im not Bruno Coppola, but i didn't like Bad Lad.Sorry about that. if he thought it was outstanding though, why didn't his famous relations want a slice? why didn't anyone else want a slice?

look at that list of films that Gepetto posted up, everyone one of them made and done in the NWest and all shite. while stuff like that abounds we'll be goosed up north because the reputation of how things get done is nothing but poor. Cheers CM.

we should be used to it by now.

Now you're trying to suggest you couldn't log in, why didn't you just contact someone to fix your account? Or perhaps there was a problem with the server or your connection briefly? We don't allow people to have two accounts so I'm going to merge this with your original posts.

Poor sad John.

I know you hide behind pseudonyms, and I know how much you are hurting. I know that you are semi-literate. I suspect that you are an actor who possibly had some TV bit parts in the 1990's. But even in those days you were full of yourself and so you were angry at how you weren't getting the recognition you craved. Your attitude problem became worse, you didn't get called back; work dried up. Maybe you tried the indie route, but that was even more annoying - arts administrators, people who couldn't even get a job in television, people with educations rather than talent. How it must have all pissed you off.

Poor sad John, now reduced to seeking attention by stalking indie filmmaking sites; how I care about you, poor sad John. I know you think that nobody cares, but we do, we all do. Tell us about your pain John. Go on, have a jolly good cry.

Big hugs

Jon

Jon...you have me down to a tee...

i've been crying for weeks...instead of indulging myself further i'll go and get some tips for the top from the pennine film festival..apparently Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy are appearing...oh no sorry it's just local legends Julie Lau and Chris Bernard. Mind you they loved 'diary' so they must have taste. They, like you, are really on the cutting edge, all of your CV's are literally brimming full of asha.

So glad you have enjoyed my postings, least it has given you something to write about in your already busy schedule, what with all those projects green lit.

Funny how you disagree and you get attacked, yet agree and we all sing together. Stick with the back slappers Jon, that way you never have aknowledge the truth.

Cheers.

John.

And I haven't met Julie Lau, and she hasn't seen Bad Lad either!

One more personal insult JM and you're banned. Unless of course you can point us to your glowing CV. Ha, you couldn't do that though could you because you'd blow your cover. Then probably you'd have trouble finding work after slagging everyone off you know.

Then again, no change there eh?

I'm not sure what John Moordon is trying to achieve here... Would he dance around his bedroom if we just all admitted defeat and decided to stop doing what we are doing. Does he want us to give up? Would that make him happy?
