Not so much a short film as a Big Brother audition tape.

Er, he's a really curious soul, liking to look 'inside' things and peel back their 'layers', and having to know why things are why they are....and so that naturally includes the plastic bag at the end. Maybe he gets curious by something he spots in the bracken...then starts getting a bit too curious about the plastic bag....ending up suffocating himself or something.....which, as it inevitably suffocates his curiosity, leaves those who've watched it 'curious' too! A 'curiosity killed the...' type of thing! Completely wrong, ain't I?! :):p

Interesting thoughts there Joanna, I thought you might have picked something up about the rope though.... :) and why the character is wearing black?

Just throwing some more 'thoughts' out there, then...Has he maybe just been to a funeral (explaining why he's wearing black)? Perhaps the funeral of his partner? Maybe he's heading out to the spot where she either committed suicide or was killed or something. It could be an area they used to love going to together. However, with it being a particular spot within the area he's trying to locate that could explain the fact he seems to be heading somewhere but is not 100% on its exact location for a while.

With the umbrella...Does he spot it thinking it looks like hers...realising it is hers when he's close up...then examines it for 'clues'.

The rope....well, was it maybe the spot where she hanged herself or was found hanged? Is he trying to get rid of the remaining rope from the tree as it's so painful seeing it there? Suppose he could want to hang himself where she was found as he can't cope without her. He then tries and fails in getting hold of the rope, so he ends up having to suffocate himself with his plastic bag, not sure how else to end his life. Though, with the 'mood' of the character at times, the mood of the whole piece, and one or two other bits in the film (for a start, why would he be ravenously eating an apple if he was about to top himself!), really not convinced that he is intend on killing himself!

Maybe whoever killed his girlifriend is lurking about on the day of the funeral and ends up killing the boyfriend too in order to 'suffocate' his curiosity or summat!

Bananas...er....uh...er....Did he take them from the wake or something as bananas were her favourite fruit or something? :p

Vinegar....no ideas on the title! Interestingly, though, 'vinegar' is an anagram of 'in grave'!

None of my 'theories' are right again, are they?! Ah, well, can't say I didn't give it a not entirely thought through go! :):p

Very interesting points

Do you not think it might be about self asphyxiation?

Well, I thought he may have suffocated himself at the end. That was just one of my 'theories', anyway! Any more clues you can give to it all?

I'm just interested in what peoples theories might be, thats all.

Somebody else brought up the point it might be about self asphyxiation.

What might eating an apple mean? Could it be a metaphor for life, and pulling it out from his inside pocket, could that mean from his heart... why would he eat it?

Ha-haaaaa! Have you heard yourself Cop? Do one, you're talking pretentious rubbish now...is that a metaphor for me disliking the thread? No it's not. Just stop it, I don't want anymore nonsense like the above quote on here, I've just eaten.

Good performance though.

Ah, well you're probably not going to be a fan of the below, then, Birty! o_O :p Best look away right NOW!!........

Well, I think the whole thing could maybe be about the co-existence of varying states of mind and 'mood'- for both the film and the audience. I don't think, as a whole, the film has one set thing it is relating to us in terms of a story. Feels a bit more abstract than that. :)

You have the constant 'mood' of the rather chirpy overlaying song, but then moods within the actual film that don't match it at all. The character in it seems to be in altered frames of mind throughout. He's, at times, curious, introspective, frustrated, distressed.... Think he has come from a funeral, but think all that about the dark clothes is just representative of the fact that it's the character that should be concentrated on above all else. He may be someone with all these complexes of thought, but he's just one man; the constant in the film to match the constant of the music. We have to take his feelings and use them to try to work the character out.

With the apple, think his eating it, and in the way that he does, is just representative of what the character is feeling in that particular moment. Maybe there's also a connection to an apple being a 'natural' food he's eating in a 'natural' setting. He could be devouring the apple as he is 'devouring' the natural aspect of where he is.

Maybe the umbrella isn't anybody's in particular (doesn't need to be, as it's just a 'prop' for the character's frame of mind)....though I'm obviously missing the significance of the rope! Will need a clue on that one!

Think he has suffocated himself at the end, though it feels like it's happened 'accidentally'...however that may be....and whatever his 'state of mind' was at the end!

Then there's the feelings of the audience....as they try to work out what it's all about! :p

Perhaps?! ;)
