Yeah, it was just before 1am that I felt it here in the West Mids. In bed reading at the time, and there was an initial feeling of wondering why on earth my bed had suddenly turned into a vibrating one. Quickly assumed, though, that it must be the result of an earthquake. There had been a similar one a number of years back, after all (shortly being reminded that that one happened in 2002, with the epicentre being the West Mids...Dudley). It lasted a fair number of seconds, too, and was strong enough that, even after the tremor itself seemed to die out, I could still feel the vibrations from it for a very brief period afterwards.
Sky News were quite quick to start their reporting on it. Think it was around 10 or so minutes after it'd happened before they had up the 'breaking news' about it! And every time I checked back to BBC News 24, there was nothing on about it at all.
But bless Sky News. They really were making an effort to eke out everything they could on all this. The woman newsreader (sorry, don't know her name) was talking to various callers from around the country, trying to find out what they'd experienced, etc, and both her questions and their responses ended up becoming practically identikit. Sort of got the point when caller after caller was saying how, yes, the tremor made their house shake, yes, it happened around 1am, they were in bed at the time, they could see other lights on in the street, it was too dark to know if there was structural damage to their properties....!! Lost the will a bit after a few of those and just watched my Damages (anyone else watching this amazing show?) recording! And the newsreader was also asking people, in all seriousness, if they'd been someone who'd ended up with things falling off shelves! Well, you had to hear it, really!
