In terms of quality between the two formats i dont think there is much of a difference. There are players out there (still quite pricey) that will play both formats so could there be a future where both formats co-exist?

The animal planet version is the same doc but with an american narrator as the show was originally made for animal planet in the US.

i have narrated 6 out of the 6 eps. It was originally narrated by a woman but they wanted a male voice which may explain why you've heard a clip with a female voice.
For anyone interested in crimes against endangered species then tune into 'Crime Scene Wild' on Sunday evenings on Discovery. It's quite hard hitting at times...oh and you might recognise the voice of the narrator ;)
