It's just over a week to the first Top Flight East Lancashire Derby since 1966

Forget your Manchester, Liverpool and any London rivalries, Burnley and Blackburn fans are known to loathe each other and the producers at Pleased Sheep Films will be somewhat separated in loyalties come Sunday afternoon.

While Mike and Wiggy will be cheering on Big Fat Sam's longballers at Ewood Park, I will sat at home tuning into Sky Sports at home due to ridiculous ground safety and policing methods.

When shooting Bar Stewards, I can make a half an hour car journey to The Hordens Pub, a pro-Blackburn ale-house run by a passionate Rovers fan situated about a mile from Ewood Park.

If I was to make the journey to see my beloved Clarets play a Premiership game in Blackburn I HAVE to get to Turf Moor for 9.15am, herded like cattle on to buses and then driven to the Darwen End for a 1pm kick-off. We don't have a choice in this matter.

I could make it to Birmingham in less time. No wonder some Clarets fans are dressing up as convicts and walking from the buses to the turn-styles as a chain-gang.

After the game, would I have the choice to go to my friend Wiggy's house (a 15 minute walk from the ground) to talk about the game... would I heck! The OTT policing means I have travel BACK to Burnley, most likely treated like a thug. I feel sorry for the unfortunate Burnley fans who live in the Blackburn area - I hope they don't care much for their Carbon Footprint.

So at home it will be, where I can have a beer, where I can stand up, shout and swear... pretty much do anything you can't do at a modern football ground these days.

But to the game. As a Burnley fan, I have been on the other side of bragging rights in the four games I have seen Clarets take on Blackburn. Most notably the 5-0 drubbing on April Fools Day back in 2001 still haunts me, and still seems to follow me around in my Blackburn circles.

I have witnessed a 0-0 draw in the FA Cup in 2005 at Turf Moor, and Micah Hyde scoring a wondergoal to bring the Clarets level in the replay at Ewood Park... but a late strike from Morton Gamst Pedersen sent Steve Cotterills Claret & Blue Army home glum, but proud.

But now under Owen Coyle, Burnley are back, playing Blackburn on our own merit. Currently sitting above them in the top half of the Premier League table and after a comfortable home victory against Birmingham, I believe this is our best chance to take the bragging rights back.

Rovers will be at home after a 6-2 mauling at Arsenal last weekend, but will confident over Burnley's Jekyll and Hyde form so far this season - 100% at home 0% away.

Burnley's results away from home so far (in order) - 2-0, 3-0, 4-0, 5-0... so, in some way's I'm glad I'm not making the 4 hour journey down the road this time!

I'd noticed that away scores sequence myself.

But I thought mentioning it anywhere would be tempting Fate.

So if it does happen, guess who'll get the blame?

It won't be anything to do with our already small squad being hit by a series of long-term injuries, it'll all be your fault Cop.

You'll have to get in touch with John Bond to borrow his disguise (historical reference) to get into home games after that.

Burnley FC will never have a better time to do one over on us. With Big Sam's strange tactics and team selections, he obviously doesn't know his best eleven. That, combined with a few injuries means you've never faced us in a weaker state.

Burnley on the other hand have nothing to lose, are full of confidence and have a knack of scoring good goals, sometimes against the run of play.

I'll be at the match though, the atmosphere will be amazing as usual with a deafening crowd and intimidating vibe. At least we've got a few players left who played in the last Blackburn/Burnley derbies a few years ago. I think Burnley only have Jensen. And Dunny is in the form of his life, and is a lifelong Blackburn fan. He'll be anxious to get a goal against the old enemy. So there's some hope, I just pray that Samba is fit and Sam opts to play 4-4-2.

Looking forward to it now ;)

Michael Duff also played in the FA Cup games in 2005, and your right, The Beast is the only other survivor.

I hope we have the same spirit as last season, with a team that steps up the plate when the fans need them to. They did it against Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs last season and then Manchester United this season.

Is it me or do they look like they are the stupid ones? If I were them I'd have waited for the outcome of the game before gloating so publicly.

If Rovers do win, can Jim fix it for me for a follow up reaction?

Interesting article here...

http://articles.squarefootball.net/squarefootball/2009/10/blackburn-rovers-v-burnley-whod-make-it-into-the-ultimate-starting-11.html

Well not really because he then goes and picks Keith Andrews for midfield, which renders every word in this article bollocks. Even the parts that actually make sense.

We should have put your fans in one of these Cop...

By the way I've just heard that the James Hargreaves stand at Turf Moor has been graffiti'd in a 'revenge attack'.

The "Revenge Attack" did happen apparently, I was at Turf Moor this morning and I didn't see any graffiti, but it could have been washed off before I got there.

I don't condone the antics of the Burnley fans dressing up Jack Walkers Statue, but there was no damage done. I can appreciate the work in attaching the shorts, tieing the sleeves around the arms, applying the wig, making a video, taking pictures, creating a website and wearing Coyle masks to hide their identities.

I'm not sure the use of some spray-paint, a Rovers shirt and a road-cone does "the revenge attack" any justice though.

I don't condone the graffiti, but the traffic cone is genius in its total randomness.

Ps, the Jack Walker stunt has been done before hence the groans and collective shake of heads from both sets of fans.

Now the airplane stunt, that was classy ;)

Speaking of stunts, I like my Dad's idea of arriving at Ewood Park by helicopter to piss off the police. Two things though, I don't have a ticket, or access to a helicopter...

PS: Paul Flecher says he owes me a favour and I shouldn't be afraid to ask... but he couldn't get me a ticket for Sundays match :(

Five of the six Burnley 'jury' members in the back of tonights Lancashire Telegraph are certain that Burnley will win. Most of them state that Rovers play a long ball game. I've noticed the same comments about 'hoofball' on some football forums, also written by Burnley fans. As I said to Cop, sometimes I wish they would be more direct! We may score more goals! These days we have five in midfield unfortunately. Long balling it would bypass those people and go to our lone striker.

Just goes to show how blinkered people can be. Sure we've got Sam Allardyce, but for some reason he seems to have abandoned that approach, sometimes this season to our detriment. Against Wolves one journalist counted 31 passes between the Rovers players before a haggard Wolves team managed to get the ball back. Rovers tend to mix it up under Allardyce and for the last five games long-balling it hasn't been much of an option seeing as he's only been playing one striker upfront.

They are really behind the times, they seem to think we still play Samba as a striker :scratchhead: Last season he only did so because of injuries. This season he's only gone up the other end of the park for corners and free kicks. As a lot of centre halves do.

By the way I find it funny that if a smaller club fires in a few long balls, it's hoofball. If Man Utd or Chelsea do it, it's 'a more direct approach'.

I saw Burnley kick some long balls up to the front-men during their defeat at Chelsea (which I watched on the big screen at Ewood strangely enough), does that make them 'hoofballers' too?

I think "Hoofball" comes with Big Sams reputation. Which is unfair because I think he is a good manager, he is very technical, he is honest and is obviously a football man.

Those fans in the LET will write that, but fans like me, know what Burnley are like... call me a glass half empty-man, but I know that getting over-excited about things means it will all go terribly wrong...

We were like this in 2001 when we came to Ewood and the team just didn't "turn up" and got absolutely hammered... we were on course of finishing high in Division One that season too...

Then we got beat by Bolton and Preston both at home in succession, our play-off aspirations slipped away and eventually finished in 7th place - Blackburn got promoted back into the top flight.

Before that game we had belief, we were on a run, we were seeking revenge from the 2-0 defeat at Turf Moor (which we played well in to be fair) but it just all fell apart like a pack of cards... and it could so easily happen again

On the flip-side, Rovers fans are the opposite. Pessimistic, moaning for however well we're doing. I heard a guy at the last match saying that Di Santo was rubbish and didn't do anything. He was a lone striker and run his socks off for 90 minutes, held up the ball better than any of our other forwards and didn't stop for a breath :D

I remember someone sat behind me in the 90's moaning because we were getting beat and saying the team was shit... We were top of the league

Course we're generalizing here, everyone's not like that but it is weird how fans have collective traits. Look at Newcastle fans who believe they have a divine right to be in the top flight, or Liverpool fans who still gloat about glories past like they happened last week

Or Millwall fans who beat everyone up :ninja:

I'll stop now I'm starting to sound like a tabloid journalist :p

I remember when in the LET (as it was back then) Burnley fans saying they were going to do this and that. Rovers seemed to keep quiet about it. Why do they do it? You'd think they'd keep quiet then if things went well they could really go to town. They are setting themselves up for a double beating if they get beat. Whats-his-name Cummings who is a Burnley fan columnist just can't help himself. He's said Burnley will win before all of their defeats and trashed the Rovers team. He's at it again this week. It's the sort of stuff I suspect will be pinned to the home team changing room walls to wind them up. Same with that Jack Walker sabotage, all they are doing is motivating our players. I hope so anyway.

An article in The Scottish Sun with Burnley skipper Steven Caldwell (with a few wrong facts and has been totally bulled up)...

Makes it sound as if I want to stab both Mike and Wiggy... and I will... because I know an alternate route than the M65...

THE ROAD TO HELL

By ROBERT GRIEVE

Published: Today

THEY'RE talking about a motorway blockade.

Riot cops are on stand-by.

Supporters buses will travel from one town to the other by CONVOY - with a police escort.

Burnley may be the smallest town to boast a Premiership club but they're set to be involved in the most bitter local derby the league has ever seen.

Turf Moor star Steven Caldwell has given an extra-ordinary insight into the crowd trouble fears ahead of his side's trip to Blackburn.

Worried police scrapped the Lancashire clubs' RESERVE fixture earlier this season.

But on Sunday the two clubs just 11 miles apart collide for the first time since the bedlam of their FA Cup tie at Ewood Park four years ago.

Caldwell said: "By the sounds of things it's going to be a bit lively on Sunday.

"Burnley and Blackburn met in the FA Cup four years ago and it all kicked off.

"Hopefully that won't happen again but the police are taking every precaution.

"I've always known this was the big derby but the build-up throughout this week has been nothing short of unbelievable.

"Our fans have been told they must travel to the match by a bus convoy. They are being herded into the town and herded back out again.

"Added to that all the over-passes across the motorway on the way from Burnley to Blackburn are to be closed off to the public to stop people throwing bricks at the traffic making its way to the game.

"There was even talk about the entire M65 being closed for the afternoon which is amazing when you think about it.

"In many ways it makes the Old Firm game seen a bit tame but this is what happens when rival clubs don't get to play each other very often.

"It was 1982 the last time Burnley and Blackburn were in the same division.

"But when they met in the FA Cup in 2005 there was loads of trouble and the authorities clearly don't want that to happen again." Caldwell is no stranger to the intense atmosphere of derby clashes.

He played for BOTH Sunderland and Newcastle in the north-east grudge match. Those meetings were never for the feint-hearted but Sunday's live TV crunch promises to take the breath away.

Caldwell added: "You've got to be up for a derby.

"It's a fine line, though, because you can't afford to get too caught up on the atmosphere.

"From my experience that's how you win games like these.

"I played in the Sunderland versus Newcastle derby for both sides at both stadiums.

"The bottom line is that it meant as much to both sets of supporters.

"It'll be the same on Sunday but at the end of the day for all the build-up and atmosphere generated inside Ewood Park it'll come down to which team is better prepared."

Burnley go into the match with an added incentive - they've yet to win, or even score a goal, away from home in the Premiership.

The free-flowing football philosophy of boss Owen Coyle has seen them win all five home games and Caldwell reckons his gaffer will NEVER abandon his principles for results.

He added: "We need a win away from home but we're certainly not panicking.

"We've had some of the hardest away games in the league at Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham, but we've been lucky in that we've been able to pick up wins at home and get points on the board.

"But there is no getting away from the fact our away form has been disappointing.

"I think you could say we've been naive, conceding poor goals at the wrong times. We take the game to the opposition rather than setting out to defend.

"Maybe away from home we need to be a little more defensive, but that's not our style - the manager likes to attack teams and I'd imagine that's how we'll set out on Sunday."

Caldwell is raring to go after missing the start of the season with an injury picked up playing for Scotland in Norway.

He added: "I managed to play against Birmingham last time and felt good afterwards.

"It's just a case of getting up to match sharpness now but I'm looking to stay in the team for the rest of the season.

"Nobody likes missing games but it was actually something which I'd been feeling for a while, but when the gaffer was asking me to play I didn't think twice about it.

"Maybe I shouldn't do that. The fact is I played in some huge games towards the end of last season and wouldn't change that for anything."

Perhaps they heard about the time you sneezed on me at point blank range in that lift at Sumners.

It was pretty much common assault

he he, don't know were he got that from about it all kicking off last time, it was the safest game to go to last time and that will be the case again this time, the only time opposing fans will see each other is in the ground, my only concern is, and it is something i have witnessed many of times is that the inexperienced stewards and police well be that worked up and buzzing that they will be the cause of any trouble on the day.

it really makes me laugh that the football fan has no human rights whatsoever, just take the G8 summit fiasco where mindless violence and vandalism broke out in london and the police used the heavy handed approach, people up and down the country laid into the police for their tactics and called for them to be sacked and hauled in front of the courts for police brutality, yet week in week out at football matches they clout people, herd them like cattle, video tape them walking from one place to another and provoke them into taking out a response so that they can make an arrest and get their tally up, the general public never moan about this as it is now an expected part of football, they just say "oh they're football hooligans, they deserve it" when in fact only a very small percentage of fans are "hooligans" just ask a burnley fan on sunday if he is an hooligan, they most likely wont be but they certainly are been treat like one!

oh and for the record i'm not a hooligan!!! but it's better you don't have a ticket cop as it may be awkward on set because if i see you on sunday i'll just have to twat you!
