I thought the finale was a bit of a mixed episode......there were some amazing moments, but also some very average moments.
I was disappointed by the resolution to the "regeneration"....I knew David had already filmed the Christmas special so wasn't leaving, but I was expecting a much bigger twist and for it to be drawn out a lot longer than it was.
I was disappointed with the DoctorDonna stuff.....I was expecting a much bigger shock as to why they have been so drawn to each other. I did find the Doctor imitating Donna and Donna imitating the Doctor hilarious though
The only thing I probably really hated, loathed and detested during the episode though was Rose getting to live in her parallel world with the part human Doctor.....it was too sickly sweet for my liking and, IMO, completely diminished and ruined the fantastic exit she received in Doomsday
In contrast, I thought Donna's exit was fantastic. It's a shame that RTD copped out and didn't kill her off in the end though....I've loved Donna throughout this series and she's probably my fave companion from the new series to date, so it would have been horrible if she had been killed off, but I think that would have probably been more of a fitting end to the character. That said though, I did think her exit was fantastic, and utterly utterly heartbreaking. She's wanted to travel with the Doctor and see time and space for so long and now she's having to forget all the wonderful things she did and saw
Catherine Tate has been phenomenal in the role, whoever takes over as companion now will have their work cut out.
I didn't really see the point of Jackie and Mickey being in the episode though, it was a pointless waste of screentime. Although I did wonder whether Mickey might be joining Torchwood now? It seemed to possibly hint that way with Mickey going off with Jack at the end and Jack commenting that he can't get rid of him. I think it was definitely hinted that Martha will be joining the TW team though - when Jack told her that he's not too sure about UNIT now and that there's something else she could do.
So, all in all, a bit of a mixed bag. I did enjoy it though! And the Christmas special looks awesome!!
Great to see K9 back too - I cheered!
Btw, I wish the lovely Wilf had got to travel in the TARDIS at some stage
He would have loved it!!
