Feel free to remove this thread if it's deemed inappropriate.

While browsing the Big Brother forum on the Digital Spy site just now I thought I'd take a quick peruse over the 'Snared' thread for the first time in a while. Rather than go over loads of pages I just went for the last couple or so. Little tit bits here and there about Bruno Langley, which was nice to catch up on, but nothing much else of note until I got to the last page.

Angel Clare/Kev - in his guise of Corriander - posted this comment:

Hate to have to say it but I think the actors' atitudes is different. Here though I think we are dealing with different personalities. James Sutton loves the attention and, while he is a straight guy he will take it from any direction, and certainly from gay men. Guy Burnett was just up for different acting experiences. How Chris Finch manages to get cast as a gay man I do not know: he reminds me of Guy Pearce in Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Two different types of gay guy but both with muscles to die for. Chris is a great guy and a great actor but he still cannot write his own ticket.
From this page

I may have otherwise completely missed this and as I can't post my bafflement to the comment I've read on DS itself, hopefully some light could be shed here instead.

As Angel Clare/Kev/Ralph doesn't seem to come here anymore could anyone who does go on DS ask him to clarify what he means? Only it seems a particularly unfair and unfounded comment to make.

Well I thought Guy Pearce was wonderful in Priscilla!

Oh and what would I need to write myself a ticket for??

In my opinion..

Sometimes when Kev’s trying to work out why things happen in the soaps he types it out as he's thinking and it doesn't always reflect what his actual thoughts are too clearly. The way I read it, he's trying to understand how JP and Craig's relationship got away with so much more than Todd and Karl, and briefly considers the actors involved and if it was anything to do with their outlook and later comes to the conclusion it was more to do with the bravery of the HO producer, four years after T&K. I didn’t see Guy Pearce in his role, so can’t comment on that.

I think a lot of T&K fans feel a bit miffed that JP and Craig got everything we wanted for T&K and it also looks like they’ll have the happy ending we wanted and petitioned for, for our boys and they didn’t get. :( I think the line about writing your own ticket, only reflects his disappointment that we don't get to see as much of Chris on tv as we'd like. i.e. We can see his talent and think the producers should be lining up asking him to work for them! I would think it's more of a wish that it’s time ‘they’ took their blinkers off and make more use of someone who’s proved his worth! - Well, that’s my wish anyway.

;)

It kind of reads as if Kev might be under the impression (wrongly I should think) that Guy contacted HO to offer to come back for a happy ending with JP – which also might be where the ‘write your own ticket’ bit comes from.

Another T&K fan made this comment to me:

I think "write your own ticket" is a common phrase to describe when an actor (or anyone else) is in so much demand they can more or less say what they want to do and then be able to do it. All Kev is saying is that unfortunately Chris isn't in that position and perhaps for some unknown reason Guy is.

Whatever Kev meant to say, but perhaps didn’t make too clear, I know he has a lot of admiration for Chris and wasn’t trying to insult him in any way.

Excellent post, Fran, and one that I wholeheartedly agree with :)

Thanks for trying to clarify Kev's comment for us, although I must admit that I don't really see why this thread was posted in the first place. I don't find it particularly appropriate for the forum, I must admit.

Btw, lol, I'm one of the miffed T & K fans hahahaha! Brilliant storyline but they completely f***ed it up in the end by not giving T & K the happy ending they deserved.....I don't really understand why....Chris was leaving, Bruno was leaving....why not have them leave together or, at the very least, have Todd leave to be with Karl....anything so long as they could end up together!!

That said though, I must admit that I was very impressed by Todd's return last year....often when a character returns, there's no evolution of that character, he or she often tends to be written and acted exactly how they were the last time they were on the show, so there's no development. When Todd returned, however, I felt that the character showed so much development, both within the writing and also Bruno's acting....he was no longer the Todd from 2004....the writing and acting really showed how much Todd had grown and matured since then and also showed how happy, confident and comfortable he was with his sexuality.

Awww, I miss Todd & Karl :(

Lol, sorry, gone off on a bit of a tangent there methinks! :)

Don't worry, it's a tangent some of us are always happy to go off on...and do quite often! :)

Personally I have no problem with it being posted, Chris is indeed 'one of us' now and as the comment was about Chris and in the general chat forum it's worthy of discussion.

Although I'd like to say that people who can 'write their own ticket' are very few and far between in this industry. I'm often surprised when I hear of big stars and directors in Hollywood who struggle to get their personal projects off the ground.

I doubt the fellow in Hollyoaks will be writing his own ticket regardless of his merit - no discredit to him intended, it's just the way the world works.

The only way to 'write your own ticket' is to do what we are doing and operate independently - that way you really can do what you want. So in many respects, with making Bar Stewards Chris is effectively writing his own ticket.

Anyway, I've written the words 'write your own ticket' far too many times now', so I'll resort to the word of the day, and that's 'muffins'.

I don't think Kev understands the way the industry works... there are not many actors who can "write their own ticket".

Once you can write your own ticket, you have cracked it. Besides actors such as Chris still have to audition for these roles, many of them unsuccessful, (One high profile actor - name escapes me - auditioned for 60 times coming away with nothing, until he got one) so when you get the work, you take it.

So it doesn't matter how popular you are really

I just feel that the original post has more to do with one person's personal vendetta against Kev than anything else....so I'm not sure the reason why the original post was made is a genuine one and, therefore, appropriate.

I might very well be wrong but given certain things that have happened in the past, I'm not so sure.

Reading the above back though, I'm also not sure if I'm making any sense whatsoever so I'll shut up now! :p
