Well my team Blackburn Rovers were beaten by a very mediocre Manchester City side. Rovers outplayed them for long periods and had the lions share of possession, especially in the first half but City had clinical finishing on their side :scratchhead:

If we play like that for the rest of the season I think we'll have a better campaign than last season. I can't see City competing with the big four though. Adebayor looked good though.

I was in Bury and had to keep checking my iPhone app, iFooty for the latest scores and text commentary.

Unsurprisingly we were 2-0 down before half-time, but I did predict 3-0 to Stoke before kick off.

I listened to the second half on Radio Lancashire and it sounded rather promising. Stoke are renowned for not playing great football, quite opposite actually, but apart from 2 soft first half goals we apparently held our own. I'll see for myself on Match of the Day at 10pm tonight (if they edit in our favour)

Next up is Manchester United at home, then we have the top four in Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton so it's enviable that The Clarets will be rock bottom going into October with minus double figure goal difference.

This is quite an achievment though, I never thought I would see the day, it's been 50 years since we won the league, 33 years since we last played in the top flight, and 22 years ago we were 1 game from extinction...

Burnley have dropped from the very top, the the very bottom, having to beat Orient on the final day for the 1986 season, if we lost we would have dropped out the football league and almost certainly folded.

But, Burnley are back... probably not for long but I'm sure we wont go down without a fight.

Just watched MOTD, they didn't even show any of the chances described on Radio Lancashire, and apparently Sky's Football First is showing more of the Burnley chances rather than questionable handballs which nobody at the ground really appealed for...

Haha, get used to that 'unbiased' coverage Cop. I can remember when Rovers were doing well in the 90's and I'd watch a game at Ewood. Then watched it on MOTD and it'd look like a different game! Once played Coventry and absolutely ran them ragged. On MOTD they only showed our goals, and not the other many chances. Yet showed all Coventry's chances. Made it look like we'd just had a few chances and scored a few

What was funny is that it showed the handball for you lot and made it seem like it should possibly have been a penalty. Yet for City's handball, which was far worse in comparison, Jonathan Pearce said it would have been unfair if any action had been taken

West Ham beat Wolves with a comfortable 2-0. We tend to win our opening matches so it's no indicator to the season ahead. West Ham's form can be wildly unpredictable. Still, strong start so I'm hopeful for it to continue.

Not Premier League, but worth a mention. The disallowed goal by Crystal Palace. It's a shame as Freddie Sears is a West Ham player on loan (as well as a local lad. He went to my old school) and it would've been his first goal of the season but all the officials were blind to it. Bristol City went on to win it by one goal and got all 3 points when by rights it was a draw and a share of a point each.

However, Neil Warnock is the manager. So f*ck him. It's karma for the whole Sheffield Utd relegation hissy fit. :finger:

Yes I saw that, I cant understand why the authorities let referee's use common sense? Everybody in the ground saw it go in. Even the linesman couldn't even make him change his mind.

If he did change his mind, he would been marked down by the referee's assessor and probably sacked because he is blatantly breaking the rules.

Warnock (or Colin as ClaretsMad users call him) has called for goal-line technology and the game to be replayed.

I don't agree with goal-line technology myself, maybe adding two officials on the by-lines to confirm decisions is the best way forward for me. It has been tested in some competitions too.

All four officials at the match have been taken off the ref list (or whatever it's called) while it's being investigated, so they won't be overseeing any matches for a bit.

The goals should Stargate machines. That'll stop the confusion over whether it's a goal or not. If the ball disappears...it's a goal. You get the ball back when an ancient Egyptian warrior sends it back from 4000BC with an impressive scissor kick.

With Spurs just beating Liverpool, the opening table for the season has the unique appearence of being top half all 3 points and bottom half all zero. That's the first time that's ever happened.

Apparently so, but what our operations director Bendon Flood says I would take with a pinch of salt... he has a book coming out soon and already I know there is some bollocks in there.

He tells the tale of a very young Michael Essien nearly signing for Burnley, but Burnley wouldn't pay him his £60 a week wages...

The real story is that Essien was still in the country after a trial with Manchester United, he came to train with Burnley FC and there was no indication that he was ever going to sign. He was light-years ahead of our kids in the Centre of Excellence.

I smell bullshit from Flood on that account personally, I think he has just heard of us from our glory days and Flood has got a bit over-excited

The other rumour is that Uri Geller was interested in the early 90's.

Doesn't help for you lot that Man Utd had a mediocre first game. They usually want to prove a point after a game like that, and what better against a newly promoted team. That said if you do manage a result, you'll probably be the toast of the footballing world (cept' Rovers of course! ). It will definitely be a baptism of fire, just be thankful they don't have Ronaldo and Tevez any more. Especially Ronaldo.

Had to laugh at Paul Merson constantly saying Blackburn rather than Burnley on Sky Sports News. Every time they went to him it was, "Blackburnley."

Rovers having an horrendous time already.

First Di Santo gets taken off injured, then Nelson. Ball cleared off the oppositions line a few times. Hit the bar and it bounced downwards and out instead of the other way. Two goals disallowed. New signing Kalanic missed two sitters. Sunderland had two chances and scored two.

Outplayed another team this season and came away with nothing because we do everything but fecking score!

18 shots this week against Sunderland and scored one, 20 last week against City and scored none. Lost count how many corners we had :blink:

Looks like we're selling Warnock to Villa, so hopefully that should free up funds for a Tugay replacement (at last).

Sounds like they played well enough though, when they get the finishing sorted they could be pushing for Europe.

Sunderland were rubbish, I still can't believe they took all three points. Kenwynne Jones had a good game though and that was the difference. Same with the City game - had most of the possession and chances and just couldn't put it in the net.

That and the disallowed goal was a bit harsh and would have meant at least a point out of the game.

Not sure about pushing for Europe but if they keep playing like they can and manage to score some goals I reckon mid-table will be easily attainable.

I'll try and catch the Everton/Burnley game tomorrow. Adds extra spice with you and Birty being rival fans.

Only thing is, if your lot win I'm gutted but if you don't then we'll be lower down the table. Oh well early days.

Birty and I shared a few text messages on Thursday night, nothing to report banter wise though.

It's time for me personally, this is the highest I have ever seen Burnley and being above Blackburn on our own merit is great... so I will enjoy it while it lasts, because I think I will only have a few weeks of it.

That's bad about Callum Davenport, they stabbed his Mum too. Sounds like someone is out to get him to me.
